The highlight of a year-long project, this exhibition delves into the Burton’s permanent collection and introduces some of the highlights from a new perspective.

The Burton’s Youth Collective has been exploring the collection’s treasures while learning about acclaimed artists such as abstract painter Gillian Ayres and potter David Leach.

Only time will tell which works of art they’ll choose for the Where’s Your Head @? exhibition, but with the wealth of inspiration the collection holds, plus the expert guidance of the Burton’s exhibitions and collections manager, Warren Collum, it’s certain to be a visual feast.

The Where’s Your Head @? story

In March 2018, the Burton gave a group of 13–19 year old young people the unique opportunity to join the Burton’s Youth Collective. Inspired by the ARTIST ROOMS Diane Arbus exhibition, which was at the Burton at the time, the group were tasked with contributing to and curating their first exhibition. Exploring the theme of mental health, Where’s Your Head @? asked the public to submit photographs which depicted life in Torridge. This resulted in a three-day exhibition of beautiful and emotive images. The successful exhibition has since been shown in other areas of north Devon.

The Youth Collective’s journey has been made possible with the support of ARTIST ROOMS (National Galleries of Scotland and Tate) with funding from Art Fund and Arts Council England; Torridge District Council and Bideford Bridge Trust and with kind support from Space*, Intagr8 and the Rotary Club.
