From July 1 the Burton art gallery and museum in Bideford, North Devon launches its new 6-month exhibition programme.

With the BFG on its front cover, the new programme has triple the amount of interactive children’s and adults workshops, activities and events than the first half of this year, all of which are inspired by the new season’s exciting exhibitions (compared with the January to June 2017 programme, which had eight workshops, this new programme has 26).

The gallery has secured exhibitions by renowned artists Sir Quentin Blake, Sir Antony Gormley, Paul Lewin and a special ceramics-led exhibition from Wenford Bridge Pottery’s Ann Carr Collection called “The Hot Pot Project”.

As well as these touring exhibitions, the Burton will have a specially-chosen Permanent Collection Exhibition featuring artists such as Hubert Coop, Aubrey E. Hunt and Mark Fisher. The Friends of the Burton will also have their Annual Open Christmas Exhibition from November 18.

Featuring lots of new and unique craft gallery products, shop merchandise and information about the venue’s upstairs museum, the programme is now downloadable online at www.theburton.org

There is a huge selection of BFG workshops for children in the programme and online, as well as popular “make your own” Christmas adult workshops. All tickets can be booked through Eventbrite, which includes those for a spectacular open-air cinema event in Bideford’s Victoria Park, planned for September 2 where the Burton will show the classic 1982 animated film version of the BFG.

Judith Gentry, Chair of the Burton Trustees, said: “All the staff, trustees and volunteers have worked hard to ensure this new round of exhibitions are of the highest quality, and that the workshops and events align well with the exhibitions. We’re proud to showcase some amazing talent over the next six months, from world class artists, and are pleased they want to help us shine a light on North Devon as the place in the southwest to come for engaging with all kinds of art.”

To book workshops, you can go to our website www.theburton.org or call the reception staff on 01237 471455.

The Burton is open 10-4 Mon to Sat and 11-4 on Sundays.
