Explore the geology, history and creative application of foraged earth pigments with artist and expert, Pete Ward.

A day workshop to explore the geology, history and creative application of foraged earth pigments from North Devon with renowned local expert Peter Ward. You will be introduced to a range of pigments from the area, including the iconic Bideford Black, before exploring basic paint-making techniques and experimentation with intuitive mark-making.
Peter Ward started his research into earth pigments in North Devon in 2007 and has since worked exclusively with what he has gathered and processed himself from the environment. He is probably best known locally for his research into Bideford Black for the Burton Art Gallery in 2013. He has been involved with a number of other national and international earth-inspired projects including multiple TV and Radio appearances. Peter is presently based in Cornwall, where he continues his work using pigments from mining waste.
