We are delighted to welcome Abi Obene as our new Curatorial Coordinator at the Burton at Bideford Art Gallery and Museum.
They have a particular interest in social, cultural and community history – especially in how museum spaces can support and illuminate a local community – and they are especially fond of sculpture and ceramics as an art form. Prior to working at the Burton at Bideford Abi volunteered as an exhibit researcher at the Sainsbury’s Centre for Visual Arts; was part of a team that kick started the digitisation of the Norwich Theatre Archive; and most recently was the Collections Manager at Ilfracombe Museum, where they cared for a collection of over 28,000 items.
Abi has a BA in History from the University of Bristol and an MA in Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies from the University of East Anglia.
