Bringing children to The Burton at Bideford is a brilliant way to mix learning, creativity and family time all under one roof. The museum and gallery combines fascinating local history with colourful art and hands-on experiences that are perfect for young minds.
Whether it’s a sunny day perfect for a park walk and gallery visit, or a rainy afternoon looking for something fun and free indoors, The Burton makes an ideal family destination. Educational, creative and always welcoming.

Crafty Kids
10am-12pm during term time | 10am-3pm during school holidays
Art and craft activities aimed at pre-school children and their parents/carers. Activities are seasonal and usually related to our current exhibitions. They provide an opportunity to play, make friends and explore your creative side. Drop-in anytime during the session.
Crafty Kids sessions are free to attend, but please make a donation if you can.

Journey Through Art
Art sessions for children aged 6*-13 years. Once a month, The Burton will host workshops for this age group covering a variety of creative media and skills. Places are limited – booking required. To book please call 01237 471455 or email)
Monthly class on Saturdays 10am-12pm or Sundays 11am-1pm *£7.
* Children under 8 years old must legally be accompanied by an adult (adult free of charge).

Art 4 Home Ed
Art 4 Home Ed is a series of art workshops for home-educated children aged between 8–16 years. Split into two age groups – Explorers (8–11 years) and Adventurers (12–16 years), this is a chance for students to explore a wide variety of artistic media and approaches that may not be accessible in the home environment.

Burton Youth Collective
For young people aged 14-18
Are you aged 14-18? Love art? Interested in a career in the arts? If so, our free art-led youth group the Burton Youth Collective (BYC) is for you! The BYC meets fortnightly on a Wednesday evening, and offers the opportunity to learn new creative skills, meet practising artists and contribute your ideas to The Burton’s programme of exhibitions and events.
