Project Description

In this workshop artist and theatre set designer, Jane Churchill will share skills and techniques to help you explore the Marvellous and Mischievous exhibition as you become a set and costume designer!

Saturday 21st or Sunday 22nd May

10am-12.30pm or 1pm-3.30pm

£5 per person

Family friendly workshop for both adults and children. Suitable for ages 7+, children need to be accompanied by an adult.

Book via Eventbrite or call us on 01237 471455 to secure your place.

Either choose a famous young rebel from literature to inspire you or imagine yourself as your own superhero/rebel character. Try out the skills used by set designers such as making a set model or designing their costume as you create a magical 3D world for your character. You may also collaborate on a piece of scenic design based on Maurice Zendak’s Where the Wild Things are to transform the gallery space as Jane helps you create work that will be exhibited in the gallery alongside the exhibition. (You will be able to take your creations home after the exhibition).

The workshop runs for about two and half hours and you will try drawing painting, designing costume and set, making a dreamboxworld and painting a large-scale scenic forest of the imagination for the gallery.

Workshop Preparation

  • We would encourage you to visit the exhibition before the workshop and to choose a character they like from the children’s literature.
  • Sketch your favourite character or write a few lines about what you like about the character & bring along to the workshop (adults & children).
  • Please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting glue or paint on.
  • Please bring along a drink and a snack.

T&C’s: Tickets are non-refundable if cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice of the workshop commencing.

Thank you to Smurfiit Kappa for generously donating cardboard for the session.
