A series of seminars led by professional artists and aimed at artists who are looking to develop the business side of their art practice. A Burton at Bideford and Art Makers initiative.

Workshops can be booked individually or as a series.

Saturday 13 January, 2-4pm
Arts Funding: ACE, Government and Business Support
With the Phil Parker and Hilary Beecroft from Art Makers and Carole Evans from the Burton

An introduction to sources of funding available to artists and makers – from grant aid to competitions and gallery submissions. The session will cover approaches to completing national and local grant applications, free access to business support and to government subsidised loans. An essential session to help you find the money so you can make time to create!

Saturday 10 February, 2-4pm
Collaboration
With Merlyn Chesterman, Caroline Lumb and Eilean Eland

Collaboration is at the heart of creative lives but seldom explored in public. This session will outline how various local artists and makers collaborate with other artists. It will provide you with the dos and donts of working with other people. In particular, we will explore working with and running galleries.

Setting up an Art Business

Most creatives do not want to see themselves as a business, but creating a portfolio, defining your buyers and dealing with licensing and copyright in the age of AI is critical to an income. This is a session to help you navigate the ever changing world of business support and survival.

Marketing for Artists
With Chloe Davies and Lisa White

From Social Media advice to the role of networking, marketing is espoused as critical to an artist or maker’s success. However, what really works, and what is right for you? This session will explore with local artists how they have undertaken showing and selling their work so you’ll leave confident about choosing the best routes for you and your work.

Parking

The Burton is situated on the edge of Victoria Park in Bideford. There are both long and short stay council owned car parks next to the park and within a short walking distance of the gallery. For more details, visit the Torridge District Council website.

Cancellations and refunds

Should you need to cancel an existing booking more than 48 hours in advance of the seminar, you will only incur the cost of the Eventbrite admin fee.

Sadly, workshops cancelled with under 48 hours’ notice are non-refundable.
