En Plein Air Workshop: Exploring Bideford Black
Saturday 9 September
With artist Paul Lewin
10am - 4pm | £75
During this workshop, you will learn about the natural medium found on this coast, Bideford Black. Artist Paul Lewin will show you how to use it to create beautiful paintings of the coast.
"One of the privileges of being an artist is the ability to open people's eyes and raise awareness to their lived environment, thus highlighting the beauty and fragility of places that might otherwise be taken for granted."
Paul Lewin is currently exhibiting some of his own works at the Burton made as a response to the Environmental Commissions. This is a unique chance to get tuition from a master in outdoor painting.
A painter of international renown for his cliff-top en plein air paintings, Paul Lewin trained in Bristol and has since lived and worked in south-west Britain, much of this time in West Penwith, the westernmost tip of Cornwall. He has had over 50 one-person exhibitions and numerous group shows in the UK and overseas. His paintings have been purchased for collections throughout the UK, Germany, Mexico, USA, Australia and the Far East. In 2015 he was shortlisted for the 'New Lights' prize exhibition and was included in the subsequent travelling exhibition across northern England.
