Edward Wild - Furniture Maker

Winner of the Wesley Barrell Craft Awards for Furniture 2014, Edward Wild was formerly an organic chemist working for academic institutions around the world before he decided to re-train and return to his passion, following in his grandfathers footsteps as a furniture maker.  Edward Started working with wood as a small boy in his grandfather’s workshop, making his first substantial pieces of furniture in his early teens

When he’s not designing and making pieces in his studio, using tools inherited from his grandfather, he can be found teaching specialist courses at the David Savage Fine Furniture School, where he previously trained.

Extending the family ties, Edward’s brother works in the forestry industry, which enables Edward to select timber from a standing tree to a sawn log, before transforming it into a timeless piece of furniture.

Trained in the tradition of English fine furniture making, Edward’s work combines time-honoured cabinetmaking skills and craftsmanship with contemporary design.

Edward makes all designs by hand out of his North Devon workshop, including one-off commission pieces as well as a range of studio pieces.

Edward’s designs include a wide selection of jewellery and occasional boxes, many with his trademark yellow flower made of inlaid spindle wood.
