Judith Westcott

Judith Westcott uses an old-fashioned method of printmaking; by using hand cut relief blocks and dry point. She works in a tradition of hand made art, which dates back to the Medieval times, whilst having a modern legacy which encourages more than just representation. When working in simple lines she decides which she feels are the most important. Establishing those essential elements calls for time and effort, but when they are finally captured she finds it very exciting to get down to cutting into the block.

Judith finds that printing frees her; she finds herself being bold and committed. She adds that perhaps that is why many practitioners of printing have been political. For her, it is about decision. Judith draws, paints and assembles collages, but is most at home amongst the suggested shapes, silhouettes, flat forms and incised lines of relief print making.
