Isabella Whitworth

Isabella Whitworth

Isabella trained as a graphic designer and illustrator before working in publishing and the toy industry. After travels in India and Indonesia she settled on Skye and began to work with acid dyes on silk. Early work was based on Celtic myth and legend. She then spent several years near Oxford where the Pitt Rivers Museum was inspiration to study textile history and technique.

Isabella’s work evolves through observation and drawing of her everyday surroundings. Harnessing resist techniques to convey ideas calls for innovative approaches and continual experiment with new methods and materials. A general sense of connection to the landscape has become a very potent influence in Isabella’s creative life. Past subject matter was often derived from drawings of natural subjects, such as feathers, leaves, animals or animal markings and the patterns and movement of water. An interest in mythology and folklore sometimes surfaced in more narrative pieces.

Isabella now lives and works in Devon. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is sold in galleries throughout the UK.
